I actually hadn't thought to ask myself why sextants measure angles up to 120 degrees (or more). If I had to have guessed prior to your reply I would have said it was in order to use an AH more effectively. But reading up on lunars a bit after reading your reply it makes a lot of sense now. Appreciate that info, and I appreciate the recommendation. Lunars look very challenging but a great connection to the past and, like you mentioned, readily available on land which is an added bonus. I look forward to learning more about them and growing my skills by attempting them, especially once i have purchased a higher-quality sextant.
