Out of curiosity, I checked my spreadsheet to see what values it would give for the same inputs. I was initially surprised to see the same results. I might have understood what was going on if I thought about it for a while. But conveniently, I put a sky chart next to my almanac. Being able to see the circumstances instantly made it clear. Screenshots below.
