Well they do say "Extra Long Life", so I suppose they're only 'doing what it says on the tin'. I suspect the slightly bulged appearance means that if you were to look inside you'd find the salamoniac paste has eaten away most of the zinc and soaked and dried into the card. I had a similar pair with one of my American sextants an A10 or 12, but I can't find them now, so I must have thrown them away. DaveP
