Note that a quarantine flag was an essential item of equipment. I remember in another forum discussing flag, ensign and jack. I cannot remember the differences.
I believe that it was practice for the master and mates to supply their own sextants. But what about the chronometer(s)? I assume that theh 8 day striking clock was not a chronometer.
