I figured you missed the link. It wasn't clear that it even was a link to the paper in the article (it is there, just very well hidden). Further, the "science journalist" clearly failed to write a coherent article. I stumbled over the same point you made, with a "say what?" to the author: "how did they correlate that?".
After reading the actual, non-surprising result, to wit: if we know a date and recorded magnetic direction on that date, we can observe/confirm the drift, I thought just to clarify the NavList record. I like seeing those old stone walls. We have them here on Long Island too, just not as prevalent.
