Online Meeting Tomorrow, Oct 4, "Distance by Vertical Angle"
    From: Frank Reed
    Date: 2020 Oct 3, 13:46 -0700

Short version: Visit this link at 1700 UT (1pm EDT) and/or at 2300 UT (7pm EDT) tomorrow:
    ReedNavigation.com/talk/

Visit and socialize in a live audio-video meeting. Talk about sextants and celestial methods, as well as lots of peripheral topics. Meet NavList members, other navigation enthusiasts, and new students, too. Meetings happen on Webex (which is a lot like Zoom, but it's not Zoom).

One special topic which I have promised before and will talk about for 10-15 minutes tomorrow: Distance by Vertical Angle. There's a quadratic equation that relates the angular height of, for example, a mountain on an island peeking up from behind the sea horizon to "distance off" when the physical height of the mountain is known. I'll try to take some of the mystery out of that relationship. And yes, I will try to post something text-ish in a NavList message on the same topic in a few days but no guarantees on when I will get around to that.

    Details and meeting links here:
