Re: Open a Mk IX bubble sextant

Replying to my own post here after some more fiddling: 1/ With thicker grease and not just oil on the left hand side wheels it snow runs smoothly. Regarding 2/ I now understand that using the "INCREASE" lever as in a sextant without the averager works fine. And finally 3/, this is still strange at least, but I should have written "dead band" not "backlash". The averager is in direct connexion with the minutes-scale but the mirror is not. That is when I change rotation of the main settings wheel the mirror does not immediately also move, but only after a while. That dead band is constructed into the mechanism as is poorly seen in the photo attached. I must take it apart once again and see if there some adjustments that can be done...

Any tips are very welcome of course!

    Cheers

    Micke
