Oops, on rereading this I should clarify that plumb lines at midlatitudes miss the geocenter by many kilometers anyway, even if Earth were a perfect uniform ellipsoid. Only the equator and poles would qualify as "magic places" provided the gravity deflection cooperates. ---Peter
