    Pierce camera sextant

How did the "Pierce camera sextant" work? There are some minor references to it in the 1920s, and apparently it was tested aboad the airship USS Los Angeles. Here's an interesting image of the Los Angeles having unusual difficulties at its mooring mast. I'm not sure how one takes celestial sights under these circumstances, camera sextant or otherwise.

PS: There's a reason they stopped playing with airships!
