I think they were written as a joke.  I do hope Geoffrey will confirm.

Independent of what we say, believe in or do in our private lives, those types of comments just cast us in a bad light. Perhaps Frank can mark it as a joke so its not misinterpreted.

It may not seem like a big deal, but if read out of context..

Geoffrey Kolbe you wrote: "Celestial Navigation for Yachtsmen" by Mary Blewitt. Yachtwomen, of course, do not need a book to teach them celestial navigation. They do the cooking, the cleaning, and haul on a rope when told. That said, I found this book by this yachtswoman the best on the subject I have read.

I’m sure your second and third sentences were spoken in jest.  If anyone thinks otherwise, they ought to re-read Mary Blewitt’s obituary in the Telegraph.   https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/1366813/Mary-Pera.html  Many years ago, I used to sail as second mate with mixed crews of school boys and girls in 72’ ketches two or three times a year.  When the weather picked up in the middle of the night, and there was a call for all hands to put in an urgent reef, the girls were predominantly the first out of bed, and first up on deck, correctly kitted up and ready to work.  DaveP
