Hi Greg,
The polarizing caused the watch to go opaque. The fix is to look under the sunglass lens to read the watch.
I've never tried it, but this modification to the watch might do the trick:

As a side-effect of inverting the display, the polarization will rotate to match the sunglasses. (You could also rotate the entire watch 90 degrees, but that would make it a little more awkward to read.)
