I am in Deal on the English Kentish coast. This was once an important naval establishment. The coast of France is clearly visible across the Channel. The timeball tower used to drop the ball at 1300 each day and a pneumatic system took the force out of the falling weight. Today, it operates on a circular belt mechanism every hour for public interest.
