Thanks Frank and others who replied to my query. This is all very helpful. The landmark I previously was concerned about is a prominent hill with charted elevation of 350m. It is about 10 nm inland from the coast I will be sailing past. I could be around 10 nm from that coast on an anticipated rhumb line. All up, call it 20 miles away. I'll give it a shot this weekend and compare to my GPS position. Fingers crossed for clear visibility.
