Hi Alan,
I have also a new ASTRA IIIB sextant and I am considering of buying more powerful scope 7x35 for better sun sights and index correction (I.C.).
My ASTRA IIIB has quite different I.C. for turning micrometer one direction or the other (see my older post and discussion therein): http://fer3.com/arc/m2.aspx/Asymmetry-ic-IgorS.-jun-2019-g45169 so I am curious about your results.
There you can also find a flowchart (pdf) to determine I.C. with the sun.
