One final comment. The timing of the quarter moon and how it was derived is not an issue. The timing in my observation was not a measurement, it was a given. While your discussion of how the orbit of earth was 'baked in' to that value is an interesting note, it isn't part of the observation.

moon parallax. No I didn't account for it but will learn more about it
index error. Obviously my sextant was jarred. Normally it is a zero or close and I have no issue getting 2-3 nm accuracy on my position.
im not a pro obviously but the purpose was to demonstrate the moon was not 3000 miles from earth. That was done handily and with tools I had available.
