The wood sextant. I looked at the scale image, only degrees without vernier, so no accurat reading possible. Just for the fun and sextant working idea. HermanD

Yes, that might be a problem. So long as the divisions were regular you might be able to fashion a Vernier. It wouldn’t even need to be inline with the arrow; it could be some way ahead. I think the lack of shades would be a worse problem. It would be OK for measuring trees, buildings, towers etc. I think I prefer my own plywood sextant. DaveP
