If you have limited space, a "pocket sextant" is an option. They can be found on e-bay, and they are much cheaper than full size sextants. I have one by Troughton and Simms, tried it many times, on land and sea, and I can trust sights taken with it to the accuracy of 1'.
Which is sufficient for ordinary Sun sights. And very simple in use. Fits in a normal size pocket.
