I have found that the best way, at least for me, to take a series of sights is to hold my phone in my left hand with the recorder app running in the background and displaying the UTC app. Take the sight announce the time and sextant reading. My navigation instructor, (USPS), had a hard time believing one could take a whole series of shots with intervals of 30 seconds or less with no one helping. I find it works really well. I can hardly see the index drum with the sextant's lighting, (just too dim for my old eyes).
