Each degree is divided into thirds, each line representing 20 minutes. The index is near 74, between the 73-40 line and 74.-00. So you add the vernier reading to 73-40.

Can someone please explain to me how this works? I can see the degrees. There's 75 and 80 labeled. The lines in between show the other degrees. I guess I can see 74 degrees. But how the heck do you guys get the minutes? Thank you for reading.
