I will follow up the references. I actually have the Occult Version 4.2.9.0 running under Wine on Linux - it's very good and ideal for the purpose of estimating delta T say, but I want the alternative problem of recovering longitude given local mean time and estimated longitude (and I want to run it on a calculator in spite of there being better technology available :-) ).
I'm chasing up the references you gave - I actually have some of them but I was looking in navigation books rather than astronomy books... I have Meeus, which as you say doesn't cover occultations, and I shall certainly look at Jones.
