Reeds versine formulas

Anyone know what formula is used in "Reeds Astro Navigation Tables"? Versines and ABC for azimuth* is all I have found out by web search.
But versines are used in several formulas, and usually with sines or cosines...
versines can be "forced" into in most formulas with a bit of math, not much help in other words.
