Many thanks Bill, I have found a good, fairly cheap re-silvering crew (telescope people really) and expect it back in the next 2 weeks. If no good, I'll look at the new replacement option, but money is a bit tight at the moment for obvious reasons! Otherwise the sextant looks good. Thanks for the metallurgy info. It is certainly a lot heavier than my aluminium Astra B. Can't wait to try it out when I get the horizon mirror back. May be picking your expert brains again later if you have time. Francis, I have just caught up with Navlist after a prolonged distraction involving restoring an antique chronometer. If you are still looking for a new horizon mirror please contact me at nzengineernzATgmail.com, or you could follow the instructions here: https://sextantbook.com/?s=new+sextant+mirrors The arc of your Kelvin HUghes sextant is very likely nickel silver, i.e. a bronze in which about half the zinc has been replaced by nickel.
