DaveP : You said "The only part remaining to be identified is the white dot on the eastern tip of the high ground on Portland Is".
Careful measurements of the image could pin this down more definitively but a likely candidate is α Centauri which would be nearly due south and just above the horizon when the False Cross is in the orientation shown.
