Many thanks for your insight and for taking the time to deconstruct this formula! As I wrote to Frank, indeed I am aware this level of precision is on a practical point of view probably overkill. That said I was trying to understand the theory behind it, and for the augmentation it uses perfect spheres. Then other corrections can be added to take oblateness into consideration.
I have found other formulas which seemed approximations and empirical ones, so not very informative. Your analysis is very helpful, many thanks!
