Hello,
I have been watching recently a short documentary on the Britain's H-bomb test (1957):

01:42 one can see that two navigation officers are taking sextant readings simultaneously. I am not sure but it seems that they do not use filters and the sunlight is coming more from behind their back.
I guess they are trying to evaluate the progressive height of mushroom cloud or what ?
