Indeed. I have seen this quite a few times myself. See the attached screenshot of the patchwork that is Elephant Island in Google Earth. Also, sometimes the images you see will change depending on the level of zoom. See the two screenshots of Nonouti atoll. In one, there is a conspicuous band of clouds running right through the middle of the atoll. In the other, the band is barely visible.
