I thought possibly it was legit because the zebra appearance on the telescope is typical of what would happen if you attempt to remove, with a buffer the 'real' hard earned patina in the mistaken reasoning that a shiny sextant will certainly claim more than a 'shabby' one. All the coffee table editions I've seen are shiny shiny shiny- obviously plated and polished for that arcane jewellery look. It's certainly been worked on, as there's no way oxidation would develop unevenly like that. Still purdy, tho. and at least it HAD that patina. Good on him to listen to you, and I thought the disclaimer was fair, albiet a bit of 'ignorance is an excuse-ish" haha
