What impressive accuracy this dip short calculator that Greg pointed out has achieved! 10-11 arc minutes is roughly the angle subtended by half a millimetre at the distance of the Sun. Maybe it shouldn't be too surprising as Bowditch 2002 and 2017 gives an unnecessarily and misleadingly complicated formula for short dip that involves taking inverse tangents where simple ratios suffice.
