There are a lot. In Bowditch, 1977, Volume 1, Chapter 21 has 56 pages describing various sight reduction methods.
It seems like it is inherently complicated to try and figure out your position on the face the earth. There is no one simple, perfect solution to this problem, and people have been playing with different possibilities for the past several centuries.
