Crosshairs are frequently platinum or spidersilk. But copper, brass, silver, nickel, gold... Have been used. Rarely steel as rust would be bad. stainless is possible after 1930 but...
Spidersilk preference is for that harvested from young female black Widow. Tjat is very thin and can with care be split for even finer strands
