Here is an example of the long = gha at noon principle.
I have long wanted to take a noon sight where the zenith distance equals my latitude. The moment is fast approaching when that will be posible. Or so I thought!!!! I decided to prepare for taking the sight and dicovered that it will be impossible. Firstly the sun's declination will be zero at about 1 am my time. Secondly the weather may not cooperate. It is therefore up to someone at 24° 22.1' west to take a "0° dec" noon sight. I do not have a weather forecast for the Atlantic ocean.
PS I studied a globe and am sure that it it is west not east
