In my experience with boats and sextants, the photographs always look better than the real thing, so if something looks rough in a photograph, then it certainly will be rough when you examine it. The flaked enamel and the oxide type appearance underneath looks worrying. Do we know what the base material of the frame is? Unless you're looking for a restoration project, pay a bit more for a pretty one. DaveP
