Brian,
I like the idea of quick shots you describe, I'm going to give that a try. I other wise set up very similarly. The CRJ cockpit and window geomertry allow me to take sights comfortably up to around 45°, I have very few higher that that. I do apply the 'standard dome' corrections for looking through the windows, it always seems to bring greater accuracy. To date most of my fixes have come inside of 15 or 20 Nm of my FMS position which has just amazed me. As I say to my FO's, if you launched from San Diego harbour in a PBY in 1940 for the 21-22 hr flight to Oahu and Ford Island, 20 mile Cel Nav accuracy would get you there with no problems.
