Greg and Don, that was just what I had in mind. From the astronomical details of the Moon on this date and the caption info, we should be able to figure out the lat/lon and altitude of the plane within some error ellipsoid. 
Anyone with strong aircraft ID skills willing to weigh in on on what type of airplane that is? I'm guessing Boeing 767-300ER based on a few details. I'll go even further and guess that it's Delta livery, but there are probably other options that fit.
