Found it. Google works much better if you google the correct name.
In desperation I Googled ‘bowers sextant’ to reduce the associated leads. That took me to 'southpolestation.com' where I recognised a diagram. Reading the text reminded me the author I wanted was Arthur R Hinks, not Higgs. After that it was easy. DaveP
