There is an article in Spanish Wikipedia which gives much information about his life and scientific activity: https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jorge_Juan His main achievement seems to be the measurement of an arc of meridian which confirmed Newton's prediction about the shape of the Earth (that the Earth is flattened at the poles, more precisely that the equator is longer than a meridian). In the literature in English, much better known are similar French measurements. He is also credited with some reforms in the navy, but my Spanish is not good enough to understand more detail from this article. One can use Google translate, of course. Alex.
