Regarding my earlier post today:
Rather than rotating the 'first day cover' image to invert it (as seen at left in the image below), I used a vertical flip function to invert it (as seen at right in the image below), and in so doing converted the left-handed sextant--that Brian Walton pointed out--into a right-handed version.
The index mirror location is still off though.
