Re: Spare pegs for sun shades old cassen & plath sextant 1975

Are the pegs missing or are the shades too loose?

I think the horizon shades pivot on a shaft (peg) with about a 0.025” (0.6 mm) groove along its length. Between the shades are washers with a leg that fits into the groove, prevents the washers from turning, and isolates the movement of each shade from its neighbors. The horizon shade mount on my C&P has a slot that allows the shaft (peg) to be tightened to provide drag on the shade assembly.

If the shades are loose, it seems likely that one or more of the tiny legs in the intermediate washers has worn off and is defeating the design.
    Regards, Noell
