Many 'ocean yacht races' permit use of an auxilliary power unit (APU) to provide electrics, gps, wx and drinking water, avoiding problems that plagued Chichester and Knox-Johnston. Cheating.
Make use of the old 'sailing directions' for low-tech sailing; trade-wind routes are often quicker than GC, and a rain catcher should help.
