That is rather alarming to hear virtually everything was taken out plugged in or otherwise. I would have thought that was not possible but there you go. Learn something new every day.
Bonding is critical on aircraft as are static discharge points.
One would think a pocket sized GPS kept in a metal box would be immune from a strike. I would take my chances on that but have no intention of testing the concept.
There is much we do not know and with differing cicumstances and situations we possibly never will. I spent nearly 50 years in aviation and there appeared to be something new served up most days to mess up the serenity of the moment.
