Try this again, but this time put an electrical-insulator layer around the cellphone so that the metal can't touch it at all. I'll do the same thing sometime in the next 24 hours.
We can both adopt the motto of the Royal Society: Nullius in verba (Latin for "on the word of no one" or "Take nobody's word for it").
I'll be disturbed if this whole Faraday cage thing doesn't work.
