This in no way answers your question (which is an interesting one), but is just a suggestion of a tool to quickly and easily clear lunars if you just want to see how you did: the "Astron" tool on the Vigilance of Brixham site has a built-in functionality for that, all web-based. I love this tool for practicing celestial, I'm really surprised it doesn't get more mention on here.

I fully understand wanting to do the math yourself instead of using a calculator. Just throwing that out there in case you'd find it useful.
