Today is the day. At 22:16 UT today, May 17 (6:16pm US Eastern Time), the sub-Sun point (also known as the Sun's "GP") will be at Leilani Estates on the Big Island of Hawaii. Magma at the nadir. Sun at the zenith. Of course a sextant would show a couple of miles difference due to the deflection of the vertical. The gravitation of that huge mass of rock pulls the local vertical towards it.
