Frank, my solution to this problem attached. The calculations are done for 28°N 90°W only. I have ignored some minor (I hope) issues such as augmentation. Summary: Between UT 17^h11^m11^s and 18^h01^m41^s the moon will cover the sun's lower limb and as LAN occurs at UT 17^h46^m you cannot use sun's LL then.
