I agree fully with you about "doing it for the sheer joy of it" that is why I do at historical demos. I also use a sextant horizontally, for costal navigation, the other use I use it for on board is distance from a landmark of know height - works well. BTW nice Boeing; never had the chance to fly one, but I have many hours in a J3 & consider it one of the most fun aircraft ever made : - )
