"I believe how well that works depends on how much you can rely on the assumption that the body's azimuth at a particular point/instant doesn't signifigantly change along the course made good during the sighting session. Bodies near the meridian are probably the worst-case scenario there."
But with short intercepts it won't make a significant difference.
