I had a go with some random wire that I had (about 40 feet) and was able to pick up WWV on 10MHz. I also managed to barely pull in WWV on 15MHz and CHU on 7.85MHz. To do this, tho, I had to get out away from the houses. The voice part was not clear but the pips were.
Regarding why I want to get the analog signal, I guess it is just me trying to get a good time hack so that any misses to my lines of position are due to my technique. I also frequently use a theodolite to take altitudes and that makes we want to be pretty close with my time hack.
