I bought a cheap Tecsun PL-660 portable receiver purely to get WWV time ticks free from any latency due to digital processing. However, for celestial navigation that's overkill. It should be entirely adequate to sync your watch aurally to WWV or USNO via phone. Visually, you can use the clocks displayed on USNO web site. My Tecsun did not come with an outdoor antenna, but I have never needed anything but the whip antenna to hear WWV indoors. I'm not saying there's a good signal any time, any day. Sometimes the propagation is poor on all frequencies. But it's better now that we're out of the bottom of the 11-year solar cycle. I even tried 20 MHz just now and found a weak but usable signal. -- Paul Hirose sofajpl.com
