    You measure the radius of the arc.
    From the center of the pivot of the arm to the edge of the scale.

    Thanks for your informative reply!
    
    I wish I knew where one measures a sextant to find its size. If I did, I could 
    figure out what percentage the small one is of a full-size sextant. What I 
    did measure was from tip to tip of the scale. The full size Tamaya is 9 3/8", 
    the International is 7 inches exactly.
    
    The International currently 'feels' better than the full size Tamaya -- that one truly needs help.
