Tilt angle sensing for use as a sextant
    From: Jim Hickey

I realize that in general, the tilt sensing capability of smart phones to measure an altitude is nothing close to actual sextant accuracy but I do see some claims that there are chips on the market that can deliver acuracy < 1 degree. In the attached article, 0.005 is mentioned provided appropriate calibration is performed and souces of error accounted for. Getting to +/- 0.3' accuracy would be pretty decent celestial nav accuracy.

Any thoughts on how practical it would be to incorporate one of these chips into an electronic sextant and achieve the accuracy?

    Cheers,

    Jim
